Beginning at Sirkazhi, the birthplace of Thirugnanasambandar, follow the early stages of his sacred journey through temples celebrated in the Periya Puranam and his Thevaram hymns. Dr. Madhusudhanan Kalaichelvan brings the stories into conversation with temple art, architecture, iconography, inscriptions and living traditions.

A SPECIAL MUSICAL PRESENCE
Travel with Kalaimamani Tiru Mylai Sargurunatha Odhuvar of the Kapaleeswarar Temple, Mylapore—one of the country's finest exponents of the Odhuvar tradition. He also rendered sacred hymns during the Sengol ceremony at the inauguration of the new Parliament building. His live renditions bring Sambandhar's songs into the very temple settings that inspired them.

WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE
Trace Sambandhar's footsteps through the narrative of the Periya Puranam; listen to Thevaram in the temples; explore sacred stories alongside close observation of architecture, sculpture and inscriptions. This is the first journey in RATHAM's new half-yearly series.
